Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) Prep Class

This three-day workshop will prepare you for the Construction Health and Safety Technician examination leading to certification as a CHST. This workshop will em-phasize core competencies along with math knowledge and skills in each of the four domains: hazard identification and control, emergency preparedness and fire preven-tion, safety program development and implementation, leadership, communication, and training.

• Job hazard analysis/pre-job planning
• Accident investigation
• Recordkeeping requirements

This prep class does not include the examination for certification. The exam requires up to three years of experience and future maintenance to keep updated and current. The requirements can be found at the Board of Certified Safety Professional (bcsp.org).

The CHST is a relatively new certification dealing with construction safety principles and practices. The CHST is also jointly sponsored by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, though the CCHEST. It is designed for practitioners who fill job site safety positions on construction projects. This certification does not require a college degree. A single 200 question examination is required.
