Construction companies in Northwest Indiana – through NWIBRT’s guidance – consistantly blow away national averages in jobsite safety. In 2021 for example, NWI’s performance was 294% better for its total recordable incidence rate (TRIR) compared to national averages. This means far fewer workers experience injuries here than the rest of the country.
NWI construction also beats the nation’s days away from work rate (DAFW) by 307%. And the region’s days away from work rate (DART) is 33% lower than national averages.
What does all of this mean for business in our region? It means that construction projects are completed much more safely and effectively, which vastly improves economic outcomes for the community. More jobs are created through safe work practices and project owners are able to achieve more of their construction goals.
NWIBRT is a key part of this culture of safety, bringing together companies from all over the area to share best practices and collaborate on new ways to protect workers. Together, we are always learning and finding new ways to improve. Lives and futures depend on working safe, and NWIBRT takes this effort exceptionally seriously.
NWIBRT members have a strong commitment to provide a safe work place for their employees and other persons working or visiting on their premises. In order to assist in maintaining a safe working environment, and to protect company property, this policy is a condition of contracting with NWIBRT.
The Northwest Indiana Business RoundTable provides a collaborative forum for Northwest Indiana businesses and industries to advance the safety, quality, and value of construction and maintenance projects.
